The pejorative undertone
Slobbering on our globe
Seeps, slithers and roams
Like the proverbial snake
Sickly twisting its tone
In its wake
Scaring even bones
Of ancient tomes
Down, down, down
We slip, We're thrown
Like Alice caught
In the rabbit hole
and its undertow
Darkness is here
Darkness is there
It is everywhere known
The time has come
The time is now
To fight the old crone
To see wooden Trojans
Still hidden, still not shown
Hope is the last speck of light
Hope is the last tone
Wake up humanity
Before our countries
Our only homes
Are fed into the blackness
Fed to the hell unknown
Wake Up America

Sam heard the music glide into a sweet, Latin-techno rhythm. Nice, she thought, her body automatically beginning to sway to the seductive beat. Standing to go join her girls on the dance floor, she felt a warm, solid hand settle on top of hers. Looking up, she startled at the most beautiful pair of blue eyes…
Leaning closer — contacts, he had to be wearing contacts, didn’t he?
She felt a soft finger glide over her hand, which made her eyes shift from his face to his... and holy – wow. This guy was pure ‘sin-on-a-stick’. Quickly, she bit her bottom lip to keep her mouth from hanging open like an idiot.
He was so… and she was so... Yeah, men like him did not talk to women like her, inadequacy flooding her body like a shot of adrenaline.
Clearing his throat, he said, “Did the water help you cool down faster?” Whoa. Her eyes shot back to his. He sent the water? “Alright Sam, play it cool here,” she reprimanded herself. This guy was way too pretty not to be a playboy, and he wasn’t drunk. Which, she had to admit, was another point in his favor – but it also meant he was aware of what he was doing. Very aware, apparently, since he had picked up on the fact that she wanted water rather than more alcohol.
Carefully, she said, “It did." He winked at her. Oh man... she continued, "Thank you for your kindness.” Desperately trying not to gawk, her eyes had a mind of their own as they helplessly wandered over his six-foot-plus, powerful body again. He was dressed in dark-blue jeans, which fit his scrumptious back-side and his solid, muscular thighs perfectly. His black, short-sleeved shirt was pulled tight across his expansive chest and sculpted arms, and his skin was tan – not fake tan, but tan as in his skin was naturally that color, all the time. He had to have some Latin blood running through his veins.
“Polite, I like that,” said Mr. Sin-On-A-Stick.
Sam didn’t know what to say to that, so she simply nodded. Then, she watched him watch her, for a few more moments. Finally making her eyes focus on his eyes, she forced herself to keep her mouth shut.
She was not going to say another word, until he did. The less she said, the more in-control she could hopefully keep herself. So, she let a coy smile cross her face.
“So, your friends really like to dance.” Tall, Dark, and Gorgeous said as he nodded towards the dance floor. Shrugging her shoulders a little, his grin grew wider reveling dimples and perfect teeth. Of course he had a mouth that would make the Queen of England sit up and beg for a taste.
“Do you like to dance as much as they do?” he said.
“I do,” Sam said, the butterflies in her stomach jumping around as if they were having their own dance party. Yep, she was in trouble. Maybe in her hey-day, she might have been able to handle a playboy of this caliber, but now, after being out of the dating game for so long…
“Then would you do me the honor of sharing a dance with me?” he said, holding out his hand. Freaking hell…chivalrous too? Oh, he was good, really good, Sam thought, holding back a grin. No question now, he was all ‘playboy’, but after that request, she had to play, whether she thought she was up to it or not. Her pride and her curiosity would not let her turn him down. Besides, what did she have to lose, anyway?
“Do you know how? To dance, I mean?” She said.
“A little, I guess,” Sam said.
“Same here. I dance a little,” said Mr. Hot Pants. “Shall we?”
Sam looked at his hand for another moment. Then she took another deliberate swallow from her cup, pulling an ice cube into her mouth, because it was suddenly very dry, even with her favorite cinnamon gum tucked under her tongue.
She broke up the ice in her teeth and swallowed, noticing that his eyes were watching her throat. Interesting, she thought, and put the cup down. She slid her hand into his.
“All right, show me what you’ve got, mister.”
He pulled her in front of his body, and Sam felt his hand settle on her lower back as he guided her onto the dance floor. The pure alpha-male gesture had her biting back a groan. She loved it when a man took control in certain situations, and dancing was definitely one of them.
When they got to the middle of the floor, he grabbed the hand he was holding tight, and spun her out, hard and fast. Just as quickly, he twirled her back in, making her thud against his solid wall of chest and muscle.
Holy. Hell-fire, dance a little, my ass, Sam thought. He really knew what he was doing. She looked up at him, as she slid her hand up his chest, feeling his pecs flex under her fingers. Once her hand got to his shoulder, she left it to rest in its proper place. Thank goodness, she was tall. In fact, with the three extra inches her boot heels gave her, their mouths almost lined up.

She did know how to dance, Chase thought, as he began the basic salsa step, and she followed him, flawlessly. It was then Chase noticed the cute, dusting of light freckles that graced her beatific milk, white skin.
"What?" she said, and then tucked the left side of her bottom lip, under her white, front teeth.
It was such an innocent, sexy gesture, he almost groaned out-loud.
So, he forced himself to look away from her mouth, and at her eyes, which actually didn't make breathing any easier for him, because she was even more beautiful up close and—wait, a minute.
A strong sense of familiarity raced through his veins. Saint Bridget, he knew her, but from where?
Her eyes were big, blue-gray and beautiful, but it was the sincerity shining in them that made it click. She was the girl from Bob’s Place. The girl that knew Noah. The girl that was very toasted and very angry with Noah. And, Noah was one Tom’s close friends. Great. What was he getting himself into now?
But, he quickly remembered Noah had said she was just an old friend from college, right? But what did he say her name was? He could not remember, and that’s when he noticed her baby blues weren't so blue anymore. Her pupils had swallowed most of the color.
Her pupils were huge.
Her pupils were full of want.
That knowledge sent a flash of heat through Chase that worked its way through his veins like molten lava. Screw Noah and Tom, he thought. Besides, he was just dancing with her. So no big deal, if she knew Noah. And Noah wouldn’t talk to Tom, because Tom was going to be out of town for three days.
She giggled and bit her bottom lip, again. Saints preserve him, if she did that one more time, he swore, he was going to swallow her innocent, sexy mouth, whole.
Chase pushed her out into another turn, purposefully making it complicated to see if she could keep up, and dammit, she didn't miss a step. As he brought her back into him, he saw her laughing, and her eyes sparkled as she began shaking her head at him.
“What?” Chase said, as he led her back into the basic salsa step.
“It figures you would know how to dance my favorite dance in wicked, fun ways.”
“Wicked and fun are good things.” Very good things, he thought.
